Quilting Progress - Free Motion Quilting completed

I finished the quilting of the quilt today. I decided to give Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) a go and am very happy with the result. All up it took me about 3 hours to quilt and about 4 bobbins of thread. I love the gentle meandering of the lines all over the quilt, it really brings it to life. Now to bind the edges and it will be done.

Quilting Progress - quilt top complete

Quilt top is now finished for Matilda's quilt. I wasn't too sure about all the colours when I first starting cutting up the fabric and making the blocks but now that I can see it all together, I am loving the bright colour combinations. There are certainly some "not quite so perfect" lines if you look really close, but I am happy with this first attempt at quilting and am sure that it will be the first of many! Now I just need to get some batting to quilt and then bind.

Quilting Progress

I have finally made a start on Matilda's quilt and these are just some of the blocks. There are 45 blocks to do and I only have 9 to go - yay! Then there are 3.5" x 3.5" squares all around the edge before the binding. I can't believe how quickly it is coming along and really want to get it finished now. The hardest bit so far has been the very fiddly 1.5" x 1.5" squares, they are so tiny!
ETA - Finished all the blocks now and layed them out roughly to get an idea of what it will look like. Still to add is the border of little squares all the way round, then the binding.

EB Kids Clothing Swap - what I sent off!

So here is what I sent off my my swap partner Kylie (who I don't think has a blog) for her little man Hartley who is 2 1/2 years old. Hartley is a very tall boy so I made clothes in sizes 3 & 4 to suit him. Mum Kylies requests were bright colours, overalls, sock monkeys and snakes so hopefully she is happy with what I came up with.

Pants, T-Shirt & Overalls
Overalls in Size 4 with yellow sock monkey lining and front pockets. I had bits and pieces of a very old pattern for these that the MIL gave me so had to make some pieces up, but I love how they turned out, so cute!
O+S Sandbox Pants in Size 3 with red sock monkey pockets Freezer Paper Stencilled T-Shirt of a snake
And a close up of the snakes tongue and eyes

EB Kids Clothing Swap - opening day!

Today is opening day for the EB Kids Clothing Swap! Thankyou Esther for this gorgeous outfit for Matilda. Unfortuately the shorts a too small but the dress/top is perfect and the little headband looks so sweet on. Thankyou again Esther, the colours really do suit her perfectly!

Some very fuzzy action shots of my little princess thinking it was very funny for mummy to be chasing her around the house trying to take her photo!

Finally I cornerd her in the bathroom . . . right next to the toilet! lol

I know that my swap partner has received her gift for the little man I was sewing for but has yet to post what she got, so once she does will post some pics of the outfits I made : )

Some new fabric & a trial run library bag

Some new fabrics I got in the mail today. I love the 'What do you see?' fabric which I am planning to use as little pocket on the fronts of library bags. The large panel nursery rhyme fabric is a lot larger than I thought as I had the same idea for this fabric but obviously much too big! Possibly good for little cushions, pencil roll outers or I'm not really sure what else? Then there is some beatrix potter fabric, alexander henry tumbleweed tots, sock monkeys and a tiny bit of some dinosaur fabric that I thought would be good for appliques on t's.
And a very rough make up of a library bag (much smaller than what I am planning) in dark green cord with the pocket front. I love this cord fabric which I have quite a bit of as well as some pale pink that I found on the bargain table at SL for just $1.50 p/metre.

EB Kids Clothing Swap - ready to send!

Well I am finished!
My parcel of clothes is all wrapped up and ready to send to the little person I was making for : )

Hair Clippies

Just a few of the hair clippies that I have been making this week in my spare time. Slowly building up a good stash of assorted designs.

Life around Home

I know this is my sewing blog but a little bit of life thrown in I am sure will be fine. After such a scorching year so far weather wise, finally this week we are having rain - 3 days straight so far! Only amounting to half an inch in our rain gauge - but rain is rain! So I thought I would bring a little of our life to the blog and show you what is happening at our place. We are trying to be as self-sufficient as possible. We had a treatment plant put in when we built last year that all the water waste from the house goes into, which is then filtered in big concrete tanks under the ground, and then dispersed around the garden, except the vegie garden. My lovely husband also built me a huge vegie patch and we have been trying very hard to organically grow as much as we can to eat and finally with this cool change, my little vegies are starting to grow!

A couple of tomatoes finally sprouting a little late in the season

A few zucchinis hoping there will be no more hot weather

A little patch of grass for the kids to play on. This is taken from the back veranda overlooking our block, and over the back fence into the bush behind us.

Knitting In Progress

I am currently knitting this little cardi for Matilda for winter - hopefully I finish it before then and before she's too big for it, lol. Just have to finish the second sleeve and down the front and its nearly all done. The pattern suggests a blanket stitch in a contrasting colour all around the edges, but I haven't decided on a colour yet, probably a slighter darker shade of green? Then a couple of buttons for the front and it will be finished.

Button Hair Accessories

I have been making some button hair ties and bobby pins to add to my 'gift' stash. I had lots of fun making these and can't wait to make some more! When I have some time I am going to do a tutorial for these as I found a really easy way to get the elastics onto the buttons : )

EB Pin Cushion Swap

This is what I received. My sender didn't include a card but I am going to take a stab in the dark and say a big thankyou to Becca for my gorgeous little chicken pin cushion and some extra little pressies!

My partner to make a pin cushion for was Dani and below is what I made for her. The little extra pin cushion is a thumb pincushion that can be tied onto the big one with the ribbon when not in use so it doesn't go missing : )
