Bucket Hat

A bucket hat for Tom. It is a little big, but ok at my second attempt - won't mention the first attempt! Didn't use a pattern, just made it up as I went as using a pattern the first time just confused me too much as I didn't like the way it was done. Now just have to remember what I did, so I can write it down to make another one. Did take some pics about halfway through when I got thinking that it might actually work out ok ; )

More Purchases

Some recent purchases from ETSY. 'Analise' pattern plus mostly Amy Butler fabric with some Heather Bailey pop garden on the end - I love this print, much brighter in real life.

Recent Purchases

Some recent purchases; Ava Rose fabric that I had been waiting on and my haul from spotlight thanks to the voucher last week. Some pretty florals to make Tilly some dresses?, some plains and retro swirls for a bag? and some Michael Miller fabric Ifound on the bargain rack for Tom - plans for a sunhat, short and matching applique t-shirt? I only bought 2 metres of this but am tempted to go back and have a better look at that bargain rack, it was overflowing with gorgeous fabrics starting at just $2 metre, some marked down from $15 or more a metre.

Just waiting on my latest ETSY purchase, definitely DON'T need anymore material! lol

EB Beginners Sewers - November Challenge - Oven Mitt Progress #3

Another oven mitt. This time I stuck to just one fabric, instead of trying to be all fancy. Got it done while both the kids had a nap over lunch, about an hour including cutting out time. Still not perfect and still have the bunching issues around the thumb.
Another go at the bias binding, getting there slowly . . .

EB Beginners Sewers - November Challenge - Oven Mitt Progress #2

Quilting through all layers - I am terrible with a pair of scissors and have since bought myself a cheap cutting mat and rotary cutter so am sure the next attempt will be much neater!

And, the final product. It is pretty rough, but ok for my first attempt at sewing something on my new machine that isn't a nappy, lol. I had some trouble with bunching which you can see around the thumb area, and the fit is very slim, even though I made the seam allowance smaller than on the pattern. This was my first attempt at using bias binding too - I really need to practice sewing straight lines! lol. All in all, not bad, but will try and be more patient with my next attempt.

EB Beginners Sewers - November Challenge - Oven Mitt Progress #1

So, I just bought some Christmas Flats from Spotlight for this challenge and have layed them out in strips of the different colours. Hopefully this all works and I can quilt through the wadding to give it a quilted look - listen to me sounding all technical and I have never done quilting before lol. I have the insulbright wadding, with plain red flannel out of my scraps for the inside of the mitt. I am using this pattern http://www.allfreecrafts.com/sewing/oven-mitts.shtml.

Some new patterns

Some new patterns I bought on the weekend that I would like to try. They say "easy" - easy enough for me to try I hope, lol.

Another nappy for Tilly

Another new nappy for Tilly. This one is outer MM 300wt fleece, hidden inner of flannel with 2 layers of sherpa, inner of flannel print. Seperate booster of 2 layers bamboo that folds over to give 4 layers of bamboo. The fit on this one is perfect, lovely trim fit too.

Presents from MIL

Presents from my MIL. Some very old sewing books and a couple of patterns.
