Whats in a name?

So, I have been thinking lots about selling at the markets (with some other un-blogged ideas that are still on paper and yet to be attempted) and have decided a new name is needed before I do anything else! I like "little possum designs" but find it a little common as far as little possums after doing some googling, there seem to be lots of little possum type names for businesses. (I came about little possums originally from our little ones who we call possum).

So my questions for those of you that sell in the markets or online or otherwise, how did you come to your name? I have so many ideas floating about in my head, random names etc. but just haven't found "the" one.

I am hoping maybe to be organised to sell by mid-late year, maybe 6 months as there are lots of little monthly markets in our regional area, plus school fetes, shows, etc. And selling things like bags (all sorts for all types of occasions/uses), baby items - bibs, toys, playmats, clothes, nappy bags/wallets, etc., hair accessories - ties, clips, etc.,

Some names that I have been 'thinking' about so far.

"Rumble Bee", "Pink Poss", "TillyTom", "One Pink Possum", "Whoops a Daisy", "This litle possum", "Little Blossom", "Tom & Tilly", "Pink Fish", "Pink Punch", "Pink Apples", "Moo You", "Apples & Punch".

Will be back with more when I have some more time and find my list from previous thinking sessions, lol. Please feel free to comment, mix them up, add your own, suggest something, etc.

Hi Anna.
All cute names! Very playful.
Without getting too much into the marketing 'theory', a couple of things to consider...
*Names have strong connotations! If you are planning to really only offer quite 'girly' products then some of these would be great. However, if you do think you may want to branch out at some point, it can be a bit harder if the name is very specific (anything is possible, but probably a bit more of a challenge to sell a Daddy nappy bag under the 'Pink Punch' brand!). Then again, if the name really captures what you are about, then I say 'bah' to the rule book!
*You may have already looked into this, but don't forget to check the business name availability (and register it) for all states you want to operate in (registering with Vic consumer affairs will only register you in Victoria). This type of formal business process may seem over the top at the start ... but if you do happen to have big success with your business, going by the book will make things a lot easier down the track. It will also ensure you don't end up using an existing name.

Hope that helps! And looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :-)

Hi there, I love Tom and Tilly. But they all are cute names. When I started my own little business my DD was into beetles, so I just came up with the name Beetlehouse. Beetlehouse reminded me of a cute little beetle living in this cute little house. And thought that kids have fun imaginations, so I just went with it. I'm sure any name you pick will be great - because you created it!!! Have fun.

RumbleBee and TillyTom sound the most versitile and original. Little Blossoms is cute too. I would steer clear of "Tom & Tilly" as it's very close to the clothing brand "Max & Tilly". I have been considering names lately for the same reason, and am thinking of using "Skilly Skally" the nickname we call DS which derived from Scallywag. I like it as it sounds unique and also depicts the "fun-ness" of kids, both girls and boys and that is what I am thinking of when I think of ther products I'd like to sell. So think of something that depicts the essence of what you are trying to sell.

Some great name ideas there.

I like Tom & Tilly, but as someone said maybe check what names are available to register first.
